Ohio Officers Get Drunk For A Good Cause

Comments Off

Several police officers and deputies in southwest Ohio volunteered to drink alcoholic beverages so colleagues could practice conducting field sobriety tests.

“The officers drank until they had glassy eyes, slurred speech and lack of coordination,” according to Will Wright, a Dayton Officer.

If a driver is pulled over during a routine stop and the officer suspects the driver is intoxicated, field sobriety tests may be conducted determine sobriety.

Officer Wright said, the practice, which took place at the Dayton Police Academy, was to help officers to better understand how to assess and deal with impaired drivers.

About three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives, according to MADD.

In 2008, an estimated 11,773 people died in drunk driving related crashes.
